Nice pic. Thanx for sharing. How big was he? Have you caught any other annectens up in that area before? Wondering if they all have that same general look.

I've never seen one from that area before - as for it being an intergrade its possible

The 1st pic is him - 2nd one is from Lancaster - 3rd is from Riverside between the 10 & 60 freeways

It looks possible that if I bred the 1 from Lancaster to the 1 from Riverside the offspring could look the the 1 from the mountains

The 2nd pic/ the one from lancaster is most likely a great basin gopher. It really looks very little like an annectan.

yes it is a great basin - the 1 from the mountains is right about in the middle of where I caught the other 2

reako had asked if it was an intergrade - so I posted a Great Basin from Lancaster and a SD from Riverside to show the possibility of it being an intergrade - hope that helps

Dude, you've got some nice looking Gophers. Thanx for showing the comparison pics. I love those. That one from Lancaster looks different than the ones we've seen out there. Another guy on these forums, Metalpest, road cruises out in Lancaster too. The funny thing is Gophers collected from the eastern side of Lancaster lokk totally different from the ones collected on the western side or even in the middle. I've had a chance to see snakes from all three areas and it's pretty neat. The middle one I saw collected from a friend's neighbors yard was clearly an intergrade between deserticola and annectens. Pretty little snake.
