Updated pic of my girl

triton1128 Apr 13, 2007 07:37 PM

I have yet to name her yet. Now that I know shes a female. She weighs 50 grams. Had her checked out at the vets post the mite sittings. Ive since treated the cage and used the "prevent-a-mite" around the enclosure. So everything is looking better. Only issue is she hasnt eaten in more then a week. Ive been feeding her about once a week. A fuzzy rat baby. Its been over a week and no luck, Ive tried twice. Shes always jumped at pre-killed. Im gonna wait another couple days and give it another shot. Gonna let her be for now. Since the mites Ive been handling her more to see if the infestation was progressing or not. But last I checked there was only 1 near her neck which I was able to remove easily. Compared to the 5 to 10 I originally found on her.

Heres a pic of my girl. Shes a bit over 2feet long. Growing pretty quick lately. Is her lack of appetite a result of the mites? or the meds? Just curious. Thanks

Glad to hear she's doing better. I wouldn't worry about missing a meal, one or two weeks with no food really is no big deal. Even a month is not dangerous. May very well be the meds. Also, if she refuses next time you feed her, try the paper bag trick. Put her and her food in a paper bag. Folded securely shut. Put the bag back in her enclosure since folded shut is by no meane secure for a snake. Being forced into close proximity with the food may help trigger a feeding response.

Ive been using a shoebox, rathen then feeding her in the enclosure. Will this technique work even if shes used to eating pre-killed rodents?

Drop it in a shoebox with her and put the cover on. Check back 15min later or so ??

Thanks for the reply

Yeah, will work live, F/K or F/T. If they're gonna eat, sometimes they just need a little private time.
