What should I breed?

highendreptiles Apr 13, 2007 10:14 PM

I have been thinking of breeding leopard geckos and have finally decided I will probably breed. What is the best way to make the most possible money? How many leopard gecko breeders? What kinds? How many cages will I need for the adults and the babies? How much will I make, if any? Money is not really too much of a concern.

Thank You,
Darien

If you want to make money breed dogs it's easier. Not many people want to spend big money for reptiles. On top of which with no reputation it wll be harder for you to sell even a lower prices. Plus the turn around on Leos is fast with them breeding somtimes within a year. So the value quite often drops fast. The market will be flooded especially this year with many new and first year breeders. So even if you buy in whatever you hatch next year wil already be mass produced.

Well, I was once thinking about breeding for selling purposes. Like the post before me stated its a rough start.

But if I had the resources to start out, I'd more than likely try some of the more higher end geckos like some found on Trempor's site, or mack snows.

Or whatever the new thing is now a days.LOL.

I would probably invest in some Mack Snows or Giants, Co-Dominant Morphs are great since one gecko can start your whole blood line. Ofcourse people are always looking to buy a nice Hypo-Tangerine, its really up to how the market is and how much your willing to spend.

Your going to need your own combination or make your own new leopard gecko to actually "make" any money. It also should not be for money purposes at ALL. It should be aall a hobby and NOTHING but! Please don't breed if it's not a hobby for you because that is where unhealthy leos come from!
