Day gecko and frog question.

ajchurch Feb 07, 2003 09:48 PM

I am wondering if anyone has mixed Giant Day Geckos and any other types of frogs? I know that the males can be very territorial but I am wondering about the mix. I have 1 male in a 45G high and I am just thinking of adding something.
Any ideas, suggections, or comments are greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Andrew

I would not advise mixing both frogs and Geckos. One they need totally differeny conditions and two The gecko would get sick from the frogs toxins when they meet together and get into a scrap (fight). Also frog soak in water and geckos drink it; in another words the geckos drinks the water and gets sick from the frog poluting the water. WHy would that happen? Well frogs pee in the water they ly in and there skin does have toxins which would come off in the water as well. Its sorta like going to your friends house and drinking outta the towlet. you would be risking alot from drinking outta it without knowing weather they flushed or have not. But I owul djust keep him in there alone or get the opposite sex if you really want to have him a playmate. I would just hate to see you end up haven a dead frog and or a dead gecko. I know what its like to have your pets die on ya and it stinks alot

Hoep I helped at all

There are some frogs that can be suitable for a day gecko enclosure, and there are some day geckos that are suitable for a frog enclosure, but not all frogs and not all day geckos are suitable for each other.

Mantella have been kept sucessully with certain day geckos. Both species are from Madagascar, and that is important. Day geckos that have been kept sucessfully with mantella include P. quadriocellata (and ssp) and P. laticauda (and ssp). Those day geckos are high tropical day geckos and can tolerate the high humdity that the mantella need. These are also smaller day geckos who will tolerate the mantella, where a P. madagascariensis grandis may not.

Finally, only someone with experience (with a capitol E) with day geckos and experience (with a bigger capitol E) with mantella should attempt this mix. This is a delicate mix and it is best handled by someone who knows what they are doing.
