courtney0639 Apr 14, 2007 10:57 AM

I have a bp with a rat bite, it doesn't look very deep or infected. I am bedding her on newspaper but i am not sure what to put on it to keep it from getting infected. Any info would be great

Thanks

Neosporin or any other topical antibiotic will work well enough. If you can get it Silverdine works the best for reptiles but you need to have your vet write you a prescription because the pharmacy won't sell it to you over the counter.

Just to add to what johnavilla said... Neosporin... NOT Neosporin Plus (with pain relief).

The snake book that I have recommends povidone iodine. That is what I have used in the past. I have had two bites and have had no infections.

I think that it might be infected, but i am not sure all my snakes have been healthy before. She has a small amout of bubbling around the mouth and is opening her mouth to breath a little. I really want to avoid taking her to the vet because of the cost, but i definitely don't want her to die. The bite has some swelling now, and i am thinking that the bubbling is possibly from an infection from the bite. Any help asap please

I would think you might wanna go ahead and make that vet appt. Open mouth breathing and bubbles usually mean a respiratory infection. Get that looked at and the bite in one visit.

I took her to the vet ($100 later lol), she does have a respitory infection. He gave her a shot of antibotics and some for me to give her later. Hopefully she gets better and is fine, she is a possible het pied female and i have a 100% het pied male to breed to her. So i am hoping that everything will be ok.
