Mystery Alterna

pdickens Apr 14, 2007 03:48 PM

I purchased this animal as an aberrant wild caught alterna. I have my doubts that it is a natural color phase and more likely a hybrid of some type. Have any of you seen an alterna with this much orange in it before? I'm going to attempt to include a pic of it in both natural light and flash photo. The Flash photo most accurately represents what it looks like in person. It's a male and about 40 inches long.

I have seen brown (orange diffused in the gray background) Alterna before. Especially from the Davis or Alpine area...

But that one is very orange.

I've had quite a few older snakes with that sort of orange "bleed through" into the gray. At least one Juno, a Davis, a River, etc. I've never seen that in the wild though.

I am in agreement 100% with Troy and Lance. I have had alterna that bleed this orange and look very similar that were wc.

Thanks to all. That certainly helps. Now I just need to find a female to pair up with him!

LBenton Apr 15, 2007 10:37 AM

Did you get the locality data on him?

pdickens Apr 15, 2007 09:47 PM

No I did not. Sorry.
