The waiting game.......

kellybee Apr 14, 2007 04:48 PM

Maggie has been holed up for the last 48 hours, I have lifted the lid twice on her lay box, but she hasnt noticed me, the first time she was digging furiously, the second time she was sleeping, or at least pretending to sleep.

This afternoon she surfaced for a drink, but then clambered back in and stuffed the entrance full of sand again, at least she has the sense to grab some fluid, lol.

Yoshi has also taken an interest in her lay box in the tank next door for the first time in weeks, she didnt actually climb in, but she loitered at the entrance for a long time, licking and trying to see inside. Her 23 days is the 24th so she has another week or more, Maggie's day 23 is on Wednesday, so I guess anytime now, fingers crossed, I'm out all day tomorrow, grr

You may be waiting , but heck think of what she has to go through, LOL dang, I remember what it felt like having my kids, and I did not even have to worry about digging a hole to go into to have my baby All ALONE, and then someone comes along and steals your eggs (if your a lizard) that you worked so hard to lay.

My goodness these pretty ladies deserve only the BEST,

It's nerve racking isn't it? I still have one female to go and I'm not looking forward to the waiting game. I felt so guilty stealing the eggs from the nest. Poor girl moved the sand around for two days after she laid them. I don't know if she was looking for them or if she was trying to make sure the eggs were covered properly.

Maggie looks a lot more emaciated than Elvis did, it was really quite saddening to see her like that, but she has had another drink and gone back into her lay box since I remved her and took the eggs out. She laid 4 little white eggs during the night or early this morning, I hope they are ok, I turn the heating off at night, so the temperature drops to about 19 or 20 degrees. I wasnt expecting her to lay overnight, so I hope her efforts were not in vain.

I also noted with one of her eggs that the pink mark in to the side not the top, so I wonder if she knocked it or if it was just born that way, I'm sure time will tell.

Apologies if my previous post sounded a little cold, I think subconsciously I have done enough worrying on the board lately, lol

I'm glad your girl had her eggs. Why do they always seem to have them when we are away? I'm glad you shared photos of the eggs. The ones I'm incubating look like yours so hopefully mine are okay too. I'll keep my fingers croseed for both of our eggs

I'm happy shes done and she is FINE ! Four lil eggs thats very COOL, NOW ya have to wait to see WHO lives in them, hehehehehee, waiting game has just begun !

You did not sound cold, we just answered to MESS with ya, but we all go nuts waiting, ...... then it is so very EGGSCITING the outcome, MOST of the time!

Best wishes for the eggs

Although I am wondering, is it normal for the pink blob to be on the sides instead of the top?

Also, is 68 degrees cold enough to kill em? That was the room temperature when I woke up this morning, and thats when I found them, our heating is set to 68 overnight, I just hope they hadnt been there very long, want to see?

The pink off to the side is fine, just keep the pink kind of facing top as much as possible, (as long as ya don't turn it to the bottom where you would not see it)

Also I believe the brief temp of 68 would be fine, as long as you got them soon after.
It is always better if there is a temperature swing (in my opinion) to be on the colder side for a short time, then on the TOO hot/overheated side.

Thanks again, we couldnt see the pink side when we put them in the bator, just put them in as we found them, though once they were in there we shone a little torch through them and thats when we saw they were at the side, though all look well
