Interesting Results from a Test Clutch

John Q Aug 13, 2003 08:58 PM

A few weeks ago I posted the results of breeding a male hypo to what I thought was a bloodred female. I received responses saying yes and no to her being a bloodred but one of the best authorities on the subject says no, not a bloodred. I bred the same hypo male to a hypo female as a test clutch. One of the two test clutches I produced this year to check genetics. Well the hypo to hypo test clutch started hatching out yesterday. What a surprise, very similar to the clutch from breeding the hypo to the unknown female. The one very noticeable difference is that this clutch has more gray in their heads. This years theme seems to be RED and lots of it. So far, 6 are out, 5 have pipped, and there's 4 more to go. Looks like a few more hold backs!
Hope you like them as much as I do.

seriously, can you imagine, taking a scale or saliva sample from our snakes, chemically separating and centrofuging, binding the sequences for color and pattern and running them in a gel...

solves so many issues but I guess would take the fun out of breeding.

Thank god for mutations though- natures forced variations
