Updated pics of Lizzy's new place!

rixavi Apr 14, 2007 11:13 PM

So it's almost done!

Here is a pic of the divider I am using to keep his eating area separate so as the crickets don't drive him mad!

Here's a pic of the length without the divider, now freshly tiled

And here is a pic with the divider... as you notice there is very little stopping the crickets from getting out.

Here you can see, we kept the wood from the divider to make hinged doors that we can use to keep them out!

Finally, this is the top with the holes cut for the lamps. We are going to put screen underneath them (held very well with tape/glue/wood. Two 150w lamps with a more focused 150w lamp for basking should do it!

Whatcha think?

I think if you are married or engaged, you may want to start thinking about "how-to's" for building furniture cabnets etc. You'll be hearing about how long you spent, and the detail and dedication you put into your lizard cage :O) I think it looks great.

Are you going to use grout sealer on the grout lines? Curious as to how well the grout will clean up of lizard waste etc. Perhaps it not real ceramice, I can't really tell from the pictures. I've seen some really good replica ceramic tyle now, so its definately hard to tell from pictures.

Nice work.

Well I happen to be lucky enough that my fiancee actually helped me with the majority of the project She's pretty enthusiastic to get him all moved in as well... and she even let me dedicate a room to him. Must be love lol.

As for grout sealer, I didn't use any grout! I kept the tiles separate but cut well enough that they won't shift and open up so that way I can remove them for cleaning. With each section being able to be blocked off, hopefully it won't be that hard of a task. The larger section will be filled with sand and the smaller will stick with ceramic tile. My only concern now is the access to the "dining area"... I'll have to open the top lid completely for access pretty much which will make for one nervous Lizzy!

Thanks for the nice comments, I'll post finished pictures today or tomorrow (depends on when I get the glass!)

I hope he likes it. The trickiest part is going to be getting the heat just right. Hopefully two extremely powerful heat lamps and a spot lamp should do it!
