sick baby update!!! Had vet visit......

BeginnersBasics Aug 13, 2003 09:06 PM

Ok, I got this email this evening about that sick little boy we have been trying to help.....

"The vet gave Zeke a dose of antibiotic and meds for parasites to cover those things although he did not find anything in stool specimen I took with me. We go back once a week for the next 2 weeks for more antibiotics/meds. He had a very hard time getting his mouth open like I did. He thinks he is going to be OK. I seemed to be educating him on the subject even though he sees reptiles . He was surprised to hear how warm his basking spot needed to be. He also gave me a solution of lactobacilis I can put in his water. I could not find the acidophliz. We have a Pet Supply Plus and a Superpetz but no Petsmart. There was a holistic pharmacy that said they could mix some up but did not know what strength. Zeke is looking much better this pm. Moving around and ate another cricket. Color is better and he is quick. Had a hard time catching him to put him in critter box to go to vet. He is standing up tall on all 4's instead of pratically bellycrawling like he was yesterday. I think he decided it was time to get up and make a go of it. We really appreciate all your help. I will keep you posted."

Sounds like he is going to pull through this.... but it is still amazing that they found no parasites or anything.

Wooo hoooo I can sleep tonight! LOL

Oh and Cheri..... make that two of the acidophliz for Saturday .. lol )

If no parasites found why treat for it. Typically metronidazole and panacur are used. Metro is an antibacterial product. It does much the same as albon does. Kills beneficial gut load. If no protozoans were found no need for metro. If no worms were found no need for panacur. If no coccidia no need for albon. Useless meds can lead to a sterile gut. Which can be treated but why mess with it. Treating causes stress which could lead to outbreaks. Just my rant.

It may have just been the strss of the move was a little hard on him. I'm sure the shippers do not wear kid gloves with these boxes, they probably even practice punting with them.

Lisa - I've updated my update on the comparison pic topic below. Please let me know if you feel I've been slamming that breeder at all. I sure hope my fingers have not run away with my mouth...did I say that right??

I am surprised at no parasites also, but I bet he still is loaded with bacteria from the food sitting in him all those days.
