Mercury vs. standard UV heat flood light

Uromastyxnoobie Apr 15, 2007 06:53 PM

Anyone know the different between a 100w Powersun Uv Mercury Vapor Spot Lamp and a PowerSun UV(TM) 100W Bulb from ZooMed aside from $40 more for the mercury one?

I have a much bigger tank now and the 100wat isnt cutting it so im gonna probably jump to the 160watt.

I use the 160 watt PowerSun, If you find an authorized dealer you can usually get a lifetime replacement guaranty from them if you keep the box.

Thats what i use too but its a 100, now that i have a 40 gallon im gonna upgrade to the 160. Do u use the one with "mercury" in the title that costs like 80 busts or the one without the mercury option thats like in the 40 dollar range?

I use the mercury vapor bulb, you should be able to find them for about $40 though

Everyone on the forum may groan, but I urge you to do a little research on Mercury Vapor bulbs before using them in your home. Many people do use them, and feel they are one of the best options, but they can pose potential problems, *particularly* if you or any one in your household is mercury or toxin sensitive.
