Growth rate...

Trefenwyd Apr 15, 2007 11:31 PM

I know this is probably a touchy question, but...

What do you guys think an average growth rate for a monitor (within reason) should be? I mean to ask how long from hatching to adulthood would one expect to have to wait if all needs were met?

Several years? More than five?

Thanks!

Under proper conditions, They grow like weeds. I have 2 yearling Niles that were both less than 12" at the time of acqusition. Thet are now over 4' and still growing like mad.

Yeah, under proper conditions all monitors can get to breeding size within a year (even the larger ones). Smaller monitors can get to breeding size around 6 months. They can take longer but thats a sign of poor husbandry.

My storrs grew to 13 inches in 6 months (hatch to now). Thats still not what i wish they grew to hahahaha. They are also still growing. They could grow alot faster than that from what i have heard.

If a monitor takes 5 or 6 years to get to adulthood, then you got some serious issues.

Cheers,
Sean
