So to my knowledge they still haven't locked up. But at least they are trying now! I snapped some quick pics. Do you think she is too big for them to ever succesfully lock up? The pics aren't great but I wanted to be less intrusive. In one pic I think you can almost see a hemipene but even if it was it was only out for a few seconds.

If they are both going through the motions as they appear to be for the short while you are watching them you can be fairly certain they are locking up at some point when you are not. Just leave them together a day or more at a time for 3 or 4 times. Even though the male is much smaller, he is probably able if he is as inclined as he is appears to be. Randy

Here is an update on the rusty project. Allan from Texas came out to Kansas studying our Black Rat Snakes. I had released a Red Male but was able to re-capture him two years later. Allan and I captured a female under the same board the following year. Allan has produced offspring of which some were red. Allan also has the real Rusty Rats. He might try a pairing next year with rusty to see if the gene is present and I will be pairing the two red siblings to see if I can make either Lucistic or an all Red Black Rat Snake. Here is an old Pic. What made this snake different is the skin between his scales is uniform red over most of his body.
