A new reptile room, a new product and some pictures

georgio Aug 13, 2003 09:41 PM

I recently moved my beardies, uromastyx and iguana into a brighter part of the garage. Here's what it looks like:

The large glass cage in corner is my egyptian uromastyx cage which is 5' by 3'. The cage on the right side is the iguana cage which has a 3' square floor and is 4' high (a bit small for an iguana but she's just here temporarily).

Also, since I moved all of them I thought I'd give them a parasite preventative. It has also been a while since my older dragons were treated for parasites. I'm trying Nature Zones "Worm Guard." It has many of the same ingredients as Parazap. I know there are a lot of avid supporters of parazap and most likely parazap is a better product but it is so expensive for the quantity you receive I thought I would give this product a try. Today was day 1 of the tea for everyone so I'll keep everyone updated on how it goes.

Some of my little ones have gone through a shed or two since I posted pictures so I thought I'd share. Here is Citrus, a sandfire red/gold x yellow tiger:

And here's a picture of my Pyro (Brandon is a name stealer =). I put him on a white background so you could see the hints of yellow he has in him along with all his other colors.

Just so you know Worm Guard has the same active ingredients as Parazap and I have had success with using it. At first I would buy both and mix it bottle to bottle just in case one had a higher concentration or an extra ingredient. The last 4 months I've treated them exclusively with the worm guard with success. On the day I don't dust the live food I give then a mixture of about 4 tbs. of Gatorade to one half dropper of acidophiliz liquid probiotics to each dragon three drops each. So far so good. The ingredients in the worm guard has a natural laxative witch cleans them out. So after the big tea dose I give a dose with the probiotics and Gatorade. for added hydration. I notice the day this treatment is done their energy is so much better and they eat so much better.

First day- wormguard 2 oz in boiling water fed with a needless syringe as much as they will lap up. This stuff is known to be completely safe to your dragons. If your treating more then one dragon add more probiotics to the mix. It is recommended that each dragon get three-four drops of the probiotics

Day 2- mix Gatorade or pedialyte 4 oz to 4 drops of proboitics acidophiliz for every dragon being treated. 2 dragons equaled 4 oz Gatorade and 8 drops of probiotics split in half.

Day 4 feed normal dusted cricks with worm guard.

Day 5 feed normal cricks powdered with calcium or multivitamin supplement with three drops of probiotics.

Day 6 back to normal until next months precautionary administration of the worm guard. If you have any other dosages or routines I would really be interested in what is working for others, Good Luck, and stay in touch. Always with any dosing get a second opinion please. Thanks.

Thanks for the info...

I was wondering, on the bottle it says to treat for 7-14 days, why did you decide to treat for only a couple of days?

the 7-14 is if the dragon has worms, hes using it as a preventative, probably why only one day of tea and then the dustings

hay, how is boulder doing? i haven't heard anything about him in quite a while?

georgio Aug 14, 2003 11:51 PM

Boulder's doing great! He's a bit upset because I've been so busy and he hasn't had free reign of the backyard like usual. I have been extremely busy with school (pre-vet). I'll post some new pictures of him on the Uro forum in the next couple of days.
