Anyone ever have gnats in your gtp cage?

Radiated Apr 16, 2007 06:02 PM

Hello Everyone,
I just came home to find a bunch of gnats in my gtp cage. Im not sure how to get rid of them. Is this bad? They were all flying around him and some were on him. Anyone else ever have this problem? Any replies will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I find one or two here and there. Not very often. I suggest cleaning the cage, replacing the substrate, and make the cage isn't maintaining high humidity 24/7. Let it dry out from time to time. The gnats won't harm the animal but may be an indication that a cage cleaning is due.

Good luck,
Bart

I have recently had them. I believe it's because lately I've been opening the windows to my snake room to air it out (it's been warm and rainy). They don't seem to cause any trouble except I have to clean my water more often....they seem to enjoy committing suicide in there!

They may have came through my window also, it was almost 80 degrees here today. I was thinking that I might need to change the cypress mulch but its only been in there for about 2 weeks. Im still learning, this is my first gtp or snake for that matter but I think I got everything pretty much covered.
