green Iguana help

thinking of getting a green iguana except i dont know how to sex a young one from the petstore. I want to get a male but i heard you cant sex them when there young, any help on how to sex a young iggy?

As you said it yourself, you cannot accurately, (and in a way safely) sex a young iguana.
Probing may tell tale the gender, but it is a risky method that can injure and prove dangerous to the animal, and ONLY a professional should perform such a thing.

Look for the usual signs, enlarged dewlap, jowls, femoral pores, evertion of the hemipenes... but since these things are only useful once the animal is about 2 or more years old, you're just gonna have to shoot in the dark and hope it's a male.

Males have a few minor advantages over females, except when it comes to breeding season, and the male is 3 years old. You better pray you have a tamed male, or you're ******.

When I got mine, there were about six in the cage and I wanted a male. I read on Melissa Kaplan's website that they generally just look larger than females. I picked one of the biggest ones out and it turned out to be a male.

It's always a good idea to look into adoption.
