Need pricing advice

lizardfan81 Apr 17, 2007 09:36 AM

Hey everyone, im heading to a lizard show this weekend to hopefully purchase my first bearded. Im hoping to get nothing younger than a young adult male. Any suggestions on what a normal price range would be?

Through my research ive seen beardies for $90 to $300.

Are you going to the White Plains show?

You'll find beardies there starting at about $50. The larger or more colorful they are the more you will pay. Just be sure you prepare a proper setup for your dragon. His/her needs will most probably cost more the him/her.

The price depends on the bearded dragons color, size, and the breeder you buy it from. I suggest looking on line and doing some research. There are a lot of wonderful breeders out there. Good luck and please post pictures when you get him!
If it is you first it is good to stay away from hatchlings. What kind of set up are you looking at getting?

I currently have a 40 gallon, 36x18x16. I know a 55 gallon would be better, obviously bigger is always better. If he ends up getting huge ill of coarse upgrade, i really wanna take care of the little guy .

I use to take care of an iguana, a leopard gecko, and i still have a red ear turtle.

My biggest concern is live feed, im really interested in trying silk worms.

Do you guys order them online? raise them?

If you get them online id really like to know some websites to check out.

There is a post below this one that has some web site listed on it. My advise, lots of variety on both salad greens and live feeders. Pinks are good also but not recommended more than once a week. If you serf through the old post you will come across a lot of useful info. I have to run but when I have more time I will list what I feed if you are intrested.
Do you have the proper light and heating elements?

Thanks for the advice. Before i explain my lighting keep in mind my apartment is usually 80 degrees or above, i know its nuts ha ha.

I have a powersun 100w self-blasted mercury vapor flood lamp. I also use an addition 24" fluorescent lamp for extra vitamin D. Test runs get the basking spot to 105 degrees. I use two digital thermometers on opposite ends of the tank to take temps. Occassional I move the thermometers to get an idea of whats going on in other areas. The "cold" are is usualy in the low to mid 80s.

I lot of forums ive been finding about silk worms have websites posted that are no longer valid. Strange...

I was thinking of either a bearded or a uro....
