I've built two cages so far. I've used plexiglass on both cages. I don't really like the plexiglass because now (5 years later) its all scratched up.
does anyone know of a kind of material other than glass that is scratch resistant (or retardant?)? an affordable alternative would be nice.
here are some old pictures of cages i built...i'm in the process of remolding them...update fixtures, interior furniture, paint and so forth...

What's wrong with glass? If you're really worried about it you could go with tempered glass for more strength.
I am just tring to avoid glass because i need some way of attaching it to the cage. That is the reason i used plexiglass in the first place...because i can drill holes in plexi and then screw it up to the wood.
I'm sure i can figure something out. It will depend on the cost of glass vrs. tempered glass vrs. plexiglass.
If i had a table saw, i could easily attach the glass to the doors and sides. I guess that if there was a scratch resistant plexiglass the price of it would be through the roof!

id go with sliding glass doors made of tempered glass. this is a sturdy glass, that i use in all of my melamines. i buy this screen door tracking at home depot and cut it to fit my cages as a door track.
