new to boas

chonjoepython Apr 18, 2007 01:40 AM

i just picked up a gorgeous female sub adult columbian boa (ill post pics later) and am new to boa keeping. i have had all kinds of snakes, from retics to chondros to emerald trees and of course ball. everything under the sun, but for some reason, i never got a boa. this girl fell into my lap. she belonged to a friend of mine who can no longer keep her. ive watched her grow up from a baby, and must say, that she is the finest "normal" colombian that ive ever seen. anyway, i want to get a male for her, but dont fully understand the boa morphs. what is dom or codom. im looking to spend up to 500 bucks for a yearling or baby. what comes to mind to all you vets out there? i wouldnt mind just getting a screamer normal, but would like to know what morph options i have. i will post pics soon. and thanx in advance for opinions and suggestions.

Since you mentioned dom or codom, I'll assume you want to produce morphs with first gen offspring.

With a $500 budget, you are fairly limited. Only dom or co-dom I can think of in that price range would be a salmon or Hypo.

hey welcome to the world of boas.
my first thought is for $500 you could git a really nice hypo male. If you breed it to tour female you will get around half the litter hypos and the other half normals

If you were to breed two hypos together you should get around 50%hypos 25% normals and 25% super hypos(dom) if you breed one of the supers(dom) to a normal you will get all hypos(the dominant gene is just that dominant)
hope this helps a little but I would definitely look into the hypos
