According to the Speaker of the House

Eby Apr 18, 2007 01:10 PM

I just received the following email from the Speaker of the House. According to him (or his staff) this bill will be heard on the floor of the House NEXT WEEK!

-------------------

Dear Mr. Eby:

Thank you for your recent correspondence regarding House Bill 2414. I always appreciate knowing the questions, concerns, and suggestions for you and all Texans.

House Bill 2414 states a person may not hunt a game animal, wild fowl, or bird when the person is on a public road or right-of-way. This bill was sent out of committee to Local and Consent Calendar and will be heard in the House of Representatives next week.

It is my suggestion you contact your local representative on the issue as soon as possible. You can continue to follow House Bill 2414 throughout the remainder of the session via the Texas Legislature Online Web site: http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/ or by calling the following toll-free number, 1-877-824-7038.

Again, thank you for taking the time to let me know your thoughts and concerns on this important issue. If I can ever be helpful to you on this or any other issue, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

TOM CRADDICK
Speaker

Following is my response to the speaker (copied to all Local & Consent Committee members).
----------------------

Mr. Speaker,

Thank you for your helpful reply. I have been following this bill closely and have spoken with the office of its author as well as my own representative. However, despite vocal, detailed, and broad opposition, this bill remains destined for the Local & Consent Calendar. The only reason that this bill was not vigorously opposed in committee was that a substitute version was introduced at the last minute. As a result, the citizens of Texas never had a chance to review or oppose the new language until AFTER it passed out of committee.

Whereas this bill is not local and certainly will not receive general consent, I request that you have this bill referred to the general Calendar committee, or back to the Committee on Culture, Recreation, and Tourism. This bill deserves a full hearing, not just a simple up or down vote.

Thanks for Your Service to all Texans,

Daryl L. Eby

We have to get back after our local Representatives. For me that is Frank Corte, Jr. and he has already heard from me twice today.

It's almost like we are being ignored, or worse humored, then brushed aside.

Why does the discription of 2414 from the Speaker of the House still state "Game Animal" wasnt it ammended to state all animals? Clark

I'm guessing that the staff member that sent me that email just referenced the original title by mistake. I didn't even notice the error until you pointed it out.
