flexwatt heating tape

how does it work? how much electrical working/knowledge is needed. I am getting a storage unit from work that is being tossed out and it is so perfect to convert into a rack system. I'll just need to add a back to it and attach the heating source. it's pretty wide and i should be able to keep two tubs per shelf, so i'm thinking i might need to run two strips down the back. thanks a lot.!

Simple. And when I have gotten it from Giovanni at Bean Farm he sends a decent instruction page. My preteen kids used to do it for me. Of course one of them likes to blow things up too......

I find it really easy. If you order from www.reptilebasics.com, they will pre-wire it for you if you ask, but even still, it is fairly simple. When I wire it myself, I usually solder the wires to the heat tape, and I have never had a single problem.

Just did my racks with Flex-watt. Real easy. Read in post that someone here uses solder instead of the clips. I did the same thing, and then use some silicon to cover the solder for insulation. Saved a few bucks by doing this since the clips and insulators are a bit pricey. You can do it, just take your time and be safe when installing. The 3 inch seems pretty popular and uses about 6 to 8 watts per foot. Check around for prices, there are a few folk here that sell a little cheaper than others.
