Snake Enclosure...HELP!

dfourmed Apr 18, 2007 05:43 PM

Does anyone know where I can get plans/blueprints for a good sized enclosure? I'm looking for something about 60wx84hx30d. Dimensions are negotiable as I can enlarge/reduce. Been trying to design it, but I'm a builder, not an architect! (Shoulda seen some of my drawings!) Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Is this for a single cage or a one-piece bank of cages?

Typically blueprints are not needed for basic carcass construction so really any plans could be modifed for what you want to do.

My main concern would be the ability to move it from a garage, for example, to where it would sit. I live in a home that is considered handcapped accessible and there are not many places in my home where I could fit it.

It actually will be built and kept in the garage, which is climate controlled. Moving it won't be a problem.

I would just find a plan you like and modify it accordingly. If it were me I'd probably use two, 30" x 80" hollow core door blanks for the sides and plywood for the top, bottom and back. I say this assuming this is just a single cage and not a bank of individual cages - you never answered that question.

Sorry bout the other question...Forgot about that. It is just a single cage. I like the idea of using the door blanks...wouldn't have thought of that. My whole issue, really, is that I don't even know where to look for plans. Tried 'google-ing' 'reptile enclosure plans,' among several other things, and couldn't find anything. Appreciate your ideas tho!

Do you have any pictures of what you have in mind?

Both ARBReptiles.com and FineGTPs.com have cage plans, although I don't know if FineGTPs has them back on their new site.

Unless you have some plan in mind different from the typical reptile cage, you are basically building a box. Your concerns will be with the size of the enclosure and the doors you'll need for that large of a cage. If anything I would think you'd want to find a plan for a display case and modify it for a snake.

The FineGTPs.com pages are still up but not linked to their main page. This is the old link.

I know you're probably looking to build something bigger than this, but this website might have some nice ideas.

They also do custom work
