ebubbles0o0 Aug 14, 2003 12:04 AM

hey, I have two res that are abt 2-2.5 yrs old and abt 4/5 inches big. I was wondering if this size is normal for their age? How often and how much should I be feeding them? Also, what size tank should they be in, and what kind of filters are good? Anyone know of a good online place to get inexpensive filters? If anyone cotud help me out with any of these questions, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

for filters, search for Big Al's Online. They sell cheap.

For feeding, one guide for portion size is to feed as much as would fit into a turtle`s head, not including the neck. Up to a year feed once daily. After that feed every other day. Veggies can be made freely available.

For tank size, many people say to allow 10 gallons of tank per inch of turtle shell. If your turtles are around 5 inches each, figure on about 100gallons of tank/container (there are alternatives to tanks). The length and width of the container/tank is more important than having it really deep (consider total swimming area).
