Egg Bound female

woodlyn Apr 18, 2007 11:02 PM

Nine days ago my female laid 5 eggs and quit laying. I don't know if the dirt was too cold(not room temperature yet) or packed down too much, but she dug a hole in the corner, laid her eggs and quit! I can still feel eggs in her. She has not eaten since. Any help would be appreciated.

The dirt in your nest box should really have been about 85 degrees.

At this point I would bring her to the vet. They have a drug that can induce contractions. If that doesn't work surgery may be required.

what helps for a female to unload her eggs is that the soil needs proper moisture. very moist...but not "mud". use warm water to moisten so that the soil will reach 85F the quickest.

nine days is a long time...you should have been worried within one day.

how old is the dragon? do you know if the eggs laid so far are fertile?

if you breed too early (like not waiting until after the first brumation) egg clutches can be small. it may also have been a stress factor that made her lay five eggs now.

just make sure that the laying conditions are perfect and start finding a vet now.
