My Corn Snake died last night

kaydee Apr 19, 2007 03:45 AM

Hi all, my 8 year old, 5-6' male Corn Snake died last night. He seemed heathly, was eating well etc... I have had him for 8 years now so I know he has always been well looked after. At 8 years old and 5-6 foot long, is it possible it was just old age? I always thought he'd live till around 10-15 years old, but when I think about it, 8 years old is not a young snake!

Hey there...
I am so sorry to hear about your male corn snake passing away. I send my condolences, as I know how painful losing a much loved pet can be.
8 years seems to be still a little young though. You said you had him for 8 years? Did you have him as a baby on up or did you attain him as an adult?
My first corn was a 5 year old adult when I purchased him in 1991. He developed some tumors in 1999 and had to be put down, but that would have made him around 13-14.

Any other info you can share, please do!!!

Again, I am sorry.

Billy

I got him when he was a hatchling. He has never had any health issues. He was not overweight and was always active untill the day he died. There was no blood, nothing in his throat (I checked). I would have loved to have gotten a vet to look at the body, but to be honest, I don't have that sort of cash at the minute and that wouldn't have brought him back.

It sounds like he had perfect care and a perfect home. Always remember that, and for reasons unknown, he passed away but had a great life.
I have been in this position before. Last year, my most loved northern pinesnake was five and died suddenly with no warnings, signs, etc..

Thank you for the kind words. Out of all my snakes, I'll really miss him the most. He was beautiful BIG Cornsnake!
