Question about prelay shed..

melindaste Apr 19, 2007 08:58 AM

I have four females that I witness their ovulated, they all four went with in a day of each other, About a week after I turned the heat back to normal. The two later girls just had their prelay shed, But the two that went befor the other two have not shed, ! looks like she is maybe just starting, Also these two females have gone back on food, but still laying on cool side. I know for sure that the one ovulated she was huge and had not eaten. Everything I have read they should have shed already it has been a few days short of a month, can it take that long to go into prelay shed after ovulation?

Sounds like the those two did not ovulate after all.

Maybe those two aren't aware of the books you read! Just kiddin' You got to remember, what you read in books, is a basic guideline based on past experiences! There is a degree of individualism in these animals! Recently, on this forum, people were discussing females laying eggs 40 days after their pre-egg laying shed! According to all the books I have read, that should never happen, but, it did!

Once an animal ovulates, they cannot resorb follicles. They either lay fertile eggs, slugs, or both.

Good luck. I'm waiting on a couple myself.

Youre right, the follicles would move into the oviducts and begin to be shelled at this point I think? Makes sense. I guess they cant be a little bit pregant at this point. LOL

Ive either had them go or not..

they may not shed at all. doesn't mean you won't get eggs. my biggest girl never shed and she dropped 7 eggs. i wasn't even sure if she was gravid, i missed her ovulation and she was always thick. i caught her rolled over on her side a few days before she layed but that was the only indication she ever gave me.

Wow that makes me feel alot better, I know they both ovulated. Very cool to know, the one female just today started laying on the hot side.
