How big is your biggest russian?

Nicodemus Apr 19, 2007 10:42 AM

I'm just kind of curious how big these guys get. My boy is pretty hefty, but I'm kinda curious how much bigger the female of the species gets.

More specifically, what is their width? I'm actually trying to build a sort of "tunnel" and want to make sure they can fit without any problems...

For the longest time, a section of 4" aluminum rain spout was my 6 year old male Russian's favorite hide spot but this year he can't fit inside. Poor guy pushed that thing all over the pen before I finally took it out. That would make him wider than 4".

my largest female is about 8" and weighs between 2.5 and 3 pounds at any given time. My second largest female is 7" and about 2 pounds. My male is only about 2 years old (CB) and has gone from the about 1.5" to about 5" now, and almost a pound (he's already been going at it with the big females). My little guy that I hatched in November has gone from 1" to almost 3".

They aren't huge tortoises, but the larger female is actually pretty impressive for this species. I've never seen one as large as her.

So how wide is that big female?

suprisingly, not any wider than my other female. I don't have any measurements, but probably somewhere around 6".
