Pac Man Feeding Question

grantguy Aug 14, 2003 12:30 AM

I've been doing a lot of research on getting a Pac-Man frog (Ornate Horned). However, I'll be living in a college dorm and I was concerned about the live crickets. I won't have a problem with them, but I am afraid my roomates will. Is feeding a Pac Man ZooMed's canned crickets just as good as feeding him live crickets? Is it the same difference? Can I substitute some other type of food for a Pac Man, other than crickets, that I can keep in supply? Thanks for your help.

Also, where is the best place to get a Pac-Man? PetSmart?

They really won't eat dead things, they are a sit and wait predator. But they can also eat if they are big enough cockraoches, crickets, goldfish, mealworms, nightcrawlers, and some other various insects. And make sure you use a suppliment on it's food as well. Oh and I've been hearingthat goldfish can cause thyamine deficiencies but do not know how true it is, so only offer them as an occasional treat.

Can anyone think of anything to keep the crickets quiet in a dorm room? I really don't want them to disturb anybody. Is it healthy just to feed him meal worms with supplements?

You could buy the crickets as you need them, which would be once adult probobly a once a weeks feeding. But you could always get the crickets and feed tehm the noise makers(ones with wings) first.

They will eat the prekilled crickets, if you move the cricket around in front of the frog. Generally you want to use tongs in doing this, because the frog can and will accidentally bite your fingers if you just try handfeeding it.
They do need some other foods to provide variety. Nighcrawler worms are a great idea, and you can just remove any uneaten ones and put them in the fridge. (If you have roommates trying to eat something for a midnight snak and they open the worms, that would be hysterical!) These frogs, when healthy, will basically try eating anything moving around in front of them. but if you just set the dead crickets in the tank, they'll be ignored; they only pay atention to moving prey.
