Exo Terrera cages are they useable ?

ackies-rule Apr 19, 2007 01:58 PM

The exo Terrera cages have a lot of decent features that could be used in chameleon cage. The only drawback is size could I keep a vielied chameleon is the largest one of 24 x 18 x 24 ? My alternative is too buy a wooden vivarium which is a 36 x 24 x 12 and makes lots of adjustments to allow venelation, the Exo terrea cages just seem easier and simpler in general to use with a screen for lots of ventelation ?

The new exo-terra cages are a piece of junk. If you have a chance to see one, go ahead and give it a little wobble to test the stability. Weak thin plastic. Also the sizes are to limiting for any but smaller chameleons and maybe females anf some medium species.

Poor Execution of material use, and poor execution of market research for the more demanding cage sizes.

A decent cage for a veiled cham needs to be bigger. A bigger cage will give more microclimates for the cham to use to maintain body temp and humidity, give more space for climbing and hiding, and give you more foliage options. Those cages are much too small IMHO.

at a number of places online

check eBay for the seller whitenile333 (in fact, he has 2x2x4 for $98 shipped online now). I got my first cage from him and still use it for a variety of things. Reptiledepot.com, www.screencages.com and of course Tyler at bluebeastreptile.com have screen cages

most of us use 2'x2'x4' all screen cages. Many have the flip panel at the bottom, but for Cyrus I switched it with the top panel so he has a little door to get in and out of his cage to his "gym"

If you get the 2x2x4 I suggest getting one with the panel at top and bottom (one flips out and the other is stationary) as it gives better support on such a tall cage.

hope this helps!

So if an Exo terrera cage is out of the question could a 36 x 24 x 15 be used I would Ideally like to go bigger but I am limited on space. Thanks for all your help so far. My reasearch generally tells me that these dimesions are still to small

The 36 and 24 dimensions aren't too bad (minimal) but that 15 dimension is the problem. Doesn't give the cage much depth and it will be hard to get sturdy plants that will fit it.
