Going for a walk

lizardfan81 Apr 19, 2007 06:42 PM

I've read numerous times about taking your bearded to your yard or out for a walk. It confuses me a litte.

Dont they stress if they are in a wierd enviornment? I ask cause I would really like to get a beardie and occasionally take it to places with me, warm weather permitting of coarse.

Sometimes I visit my parents house on the weekends, would it be acceptable to have a seperate home there for him or would that just confuse him too much?

A separate home would be very nice if you can arrange it. I would just tote his hide box and maybe one other piece of familiar smelling furniture back and forth. Pack an over night case for both you and him =)

I wouldn't suggest moving them around a lot as babies. But, once adults it shouldn't be a problem. Just make sure their needs are met at the home away from home too. (UVB, proper temps., etc.)

Some beardies love going for walks and others hate it. It depends on the personality of the beardie. I have lots of beardies and many of them absolutely love it. When I come over to their cage with a towel on my shoulder (I always take a towel because when they get real warm in the sunshine they have a tendency to poo) they get all excited and run over to the side - like "Mom - it's my turn!". Other beardies get real scared though and don't particularly like it. You have to learn your beardies personality. If you want to buy a beardie that is going to like walks and a lot of interaction, it's better to buy an older dragon that you can tell his or her personality better. It's a little harder to tell with babies. Just make sure you are buying from a breeder that gives them lots of attention so they are used to people!
