Jackson help

Tdude Apr 19, 2007 11:14 PM

I've noticed that my male Jacksons front left leg is swollen a bit. I am changing my UVB light tomorrow and he gets his food dusted every other day . I keep the humidty in the 60-70% range and he's living in a large enclosure with live plants (ficus) Could this be insufficient UVB rays? I was thinking of adding a second light fixture or at least get a double canopy . I have a vet visit after the weekend and I'm just curious to see what the problem could be.

Jacksons are montane chameleons. Montane chameleons require significantly less supplementation/vits mineral in captivity. What you are seeing might be the onset of gout. (An excessive buildup of protein)

Thanks Will. I 'm going to try feeding him without the dusting for a week or two and see if there is any improvement. My other pair of Jacksons are doing fine with the same feeding regiment and no problems with them.

It could be only a matter of time. Dehydration and renal failure can cause or contribute to gout. Increase the water intake aswell if possible.
