adult boa rack

EvoMorphs Apr 20, 2007 11:28 AM

Is anyone making racks for bigger boas. Do you know of any tubes that are big enought for 6-8 foot boas. If a 72qt sterilite tube was used (40x20x7) how big of a boa could be housed in it, it would have a 10 foot perimeter, but they're only 7 inches tall. And lastly what do you think of tubes that are not clear the ones Im looking at are black.

Thanks for the info

two companies are, that I know of, Visions and reptiletubs.com will be making racks for their big tubs. The height doesn't matter, and a 20" X 40" tub shouldn't house a boa over about 5 feet max, maybe even less. How could a tub that size have a 10 ft perimiter? Must be something I don't understand here. You need day and night for boas so no black tubs. They don't have to be perfectly clear but they need to let light through enough to give day and night.

I have a huge tub from reptiletibs.com (VE175: 20 7/8" X 52 7/8" X 14" tall) and not only did it cost more to ship than to buy, but I would never house a gravid female in a tub. Some disagree with me, but I feel that pulling the tub out is too much disturbance for the many time you will need to check on her. In my opinion the less you disturb her the better. In my opinion it is wishful thinking to try to house gravid females in a rack. No reason you couldn't house your males and smaller non-gravid females in it though.

On the perimeter, 40" for two sides and 20" for the other two that give you 40 40 20 20=120" divide that by 12 and you get 10', Yes No. And I do agree with you about not using them for breeding we'll leave that to the cages but I looking in to how many people would use something like this for growing their boas and housing males. Shipping is defiantly going to be the big problem.

thank for the help

I made these melamine racks around the Iris CB110 tubs. Remember, with ALL tubs, the rim is usually larger then the floor since the walls slope in. IMO good for males and small females. Even larger males would be too big for them.

I also wanted a rack for full size females but the ones I could find were either too expensive or had features I didnt like - such as a lip around the rim where the big animals can hold onto.

We have more pictures and information on our site under Pictures, then Cages we Use or click the link below the picture here.

Also, our first model was entirely wood, on our second unit we duplicated the cages but we used shower board plastic to cover the inside portions before we cut all the pieces. Works great! No mildew, all plastic. Just let it gass out well before putting animals in. Like a week.

thats a great idea, keep us updated how you like it because it seems great. what are the pans that you used?

southernboids Apr 20, 2007 07:17 PM

We have had these for almost two years now and they have held up great. The pans are from Precision Pets and they are the inserts to large dog kennels. They have many sizes so you could make all your cages this way if you wanted.

Good luck and if you make some post some pictures.

I found a page that sells the pans, but unless they have tripled in price they seem very high. But you can see the sizes they have and I would check locally to see what you could find as well.
