cage size for JCP

Tony D Apr 20, 2007 01:47 PM

IN my old digs, I successfully kept and bred coastals carpets for many years in cages that were 2’ deep X 6’ wide X 2’ high. Those cages were more than adequate. In my current room I have the capacity to remove a rack of 8 sweater boxes and put in two cages that are 3’ wide X 2’ deep X 2’ high. Question is, would these be large enough to successfully keep and breed JCPs. I know that they are “supposed” to be smaller but I’ve seen some lunkers too. I’m wondering if the smaller animals breed. Opinions / input appreciated. Thanks!

I typically recommend 4x2x2 as an absolute minnimum for Jungles. Although, I do prefer the 3x2x2 configuration more than the oh so popular (and in my eyes inadequate) 4x2x1.
The size range of Jungles is quite variable. Our smallest females are barely 5 feet, yet we have several that flirt with the 8 foot mark as well.
Having said all of this, there are breeders that breed them in sweater box racks. Not that I could do that and still sleep at night.
Have fun!

Tony,
I keep my female in a 3 foot vision(36x28x18), which is more than adequate for her. My male is in an arboreal vision (28x24x24). My jungles aren't huge, but have bred successfully and I think are doing great in those cages.
