hibernation

i was reading some things about tegus and i read tht they hibernate 65-100 days of the year.i really dont want a lizard tht sleeps hlf the freaking year. s this true. if it is what happens if u take them out or somehting when thye hibernateing

If you keep your temps up they will not hibernate....and if you don't mind spending the $ on extra electricity all year (and food), and you are prepared to watch him grow at twice the rate he would if he did, then you have a pet that will not brumate.

Well even if you can keep them from hibernating there is another aspect you may not like. My Argentine B&W are out of their hide box for about 2-5 hours per day. Just want to let you know to help you decide if they're right for you.

ok what happens if they arent or are hibernating and say i friend comes over and i want to show him the lizard. if there sleeping could i take them out of hide box

If you open the hide box when they're in there they'll wake right up. Usually they won't be too happy either. I guess it'd be better if it was around the time they're usually awake. Another option is to put them in a room without a den if you know someone's coming over later. I hardly ever disturb mine when they're in their den but I'm not saying it's wrong to do so. One thing though if your waking him up everyday then you might not realize he wants to hibernate. The way you could tell is if he stops eating, they do this too ensure their intestine is free of food so it won’t rot when they’re hibernating.
