Making cage tops

I have some old custom made tanks from the pet store I work at, I need some ideas for different ways to make my own tops for them

The problem I have with tank tops is securing them. I've made a few but haven't put forth much of an effort to figure a good way to secure them, other than weighting them down.

Here's a few pics of a 55-gal top I made out of 1 x 3s, 1 x 2s, plexiglass and metal screen. I held the tolerances really close on this one and it is pretty tight-fitting.

I framed the tank with the 1 x 3s and then cut a 1/2-inch groove in the center of the 1 x 2s so the plexiglass slides into and is secured. Staple metal screen in the lamp area and drill 1/4-inch holes in opposite end, in the plexiglass.

Yell if you have any more questions.

Have a good one!
Mike
