Protecting our right to get skunked

I just got in from a night of herping along the roads and ROW in Brewster & Presidion counties. I left my house at sunset with my boys (3 & 6). Drove about 150 miles. Walked several cuts. Met one other herper (Mike Welker). Got stopped by one LE (Brewster Co Deputy). Spent seven hours looking. Found ONE live snake (small atrox). Found five DORs (1 bull, 2 ground, 1 longnose, 1 mojave). Listened to "Cars" on the DVD player four times. Listened to my boys snore (they begged me to go, then slept nearly the whole time).

Can't wait to go again!

Dad & I went down to Zavala, Dimmitt, and LaSalle Counties, and found 1 live atrox and 1 live checkered garter (along with 3 dead atrox and a dead checkered) . . . slow & cool night for sure - but it is really green down there!

Norm and I went south of Apine, between the picnic tables, for a couple of hours last night. The temp started at 70 and was down to 66 when we quit at 10:45. We saw a total of 4 live serpientes; one 3.5' suboc, one 16" emory, one baby atrox, & one 3 to 4 foot pituophis along with one DOR 2' molossus.

Of course we would have been in violation of the proposed law once we moved 100% of them off the road to a more suitable, less dangerous portion of their so called right of way sanctuary. I guess the person who flattened the molossus didn't realize that he was killing wildlife within their sanctuary, but then again, if said person did know, it wouldn't matter, because it's ok to intentionally squash "wildlife" on the roads/sanctuary. Truly amazing!

We thought about going to south Brewster, but decided not to..........glad we didn't.
