My friend who lives in Ocala, FL pulled into his driveway and when he got out he found he had run over and killed this snake. He took a pic(poor quality sorry) and sent it to me to see if I had any idea what kind it is. Someone able to identify it?

That looks like the peninsula crowned snake to me, Tantilla relicta
relicta. That would be an adult. They are a rear-fanged snake that is not dangerous to people or pets. They are fossorial & not seen often.

Florida's Venomous Snakes
Yes,....like Greg stated,....that is either..
* Peninsula Crowned Snake(Tantilla relicta relicta), or
* Central Florida Crowned Snake(Tantilla relicta neilli), it's hard to get a good look at the collar from the photo.

I chose r. relicta due to where it was caught. The neilli is found a lot closer to the coast than Ocala.

I tend to agree with you on that!!
