T+ Albinos born at RedTailBoas

RedTailBoas Apr 21, 2007 09:51 AM

Well we had a little fun with tail shots and a few people picked up on it.

To say this comes as a complete suprise is an understatement. I was shocked by what I saw in this litter and did not even truly know what I had. I sent pictures to Jeff, Mark and Ryan. All were very helpful. Mark and Jeff called me immediately to tell me what I had. Then there was the process of trying to understand the possibliities... it was just enough to boggle the mind.

Here's what we know. Thanks to Jeff for working with me on this.

1. Neither Parent is a Sharp Albino.
2. Neither Parent is a Caramel.
3. Neither Parent is a T-Positive.

The parents you ask? More information coming soon.

One of the parents was a jungle. That t on top looks to be very jungly. Anyway. I had that happen to me in 1997 just out of nowhere. Very cool! I hope for a spontaneous leucistic every year as well lol. So far it hasnt happened but one day........yes one day!

Congrats again, and I guess this answers the question about being VPI line. You still may want to send pictures to Tracy Barker, she may be able to help you out a little more on it.

Could be a different mutation.

What's the scoop here-looks like some pretty babies. Fill me in!

RedTailBoas Apr 21, 2007 10:10 PM

Tracy,

What we know is the female can be traced back directly to a "Minnesota" bloodline that I purchased in 2000

The male is an extreme pastel that I independently purchased in California in 2000

The breeding produced numbers that exceed an expected Het X Het paring with 1/3 of the litter being T+ albinos. There were also 10 slugs so that could account for some of it.

This was the first time these 2 were paired that produced babies.

I believe the extreme pastel male has contributed to the overall light and clean appearance of the babies.

We will know more in 9 or 10 days

The female that produced Clay's new babies was produced using a pair of animals that I aquired in 1993 or 1994 as new born babies on a trade for Peruvian Red Tail Boas from a breeder who is long gone from the Boa business.

One bad thing bad thing about being the Keeper of The Boa Black hole is this; I went to bed almost three hours ago to go to sleep. I have not been able to get to sleep yet and I normally fall right asleep and sleep like a rock. I guess this might be the only thing bad about being the Keeper.

Thanks very much Clay for ruining my nights sleep. I guess I can sleep later on right?

Nighty night all! He said with a big fat grin across his big fat head... It's way way past MY bedtime!

Great info, if Clay gets a second litter from that male to another unrelated girl with none in there we can assume that both the mom and dad are hets for the trait. If there are more babies to another female that would be even more interesting. I'm staying tuned. Can't have too many good looking boas. This is definately the year of the boa!

Can't what to hear more info.

Congrats,
Chris
