tanks like this, they'd put kingsnake.com out of business! Tell him good job. And he hasn't been tempted to overload the tank either!

First off, great looking tank!

I noticed you have a water/land section. It looks like you siliconed your own piece of glass in there to make the water/land divider. If so, does yours 'leak'? I tried to create a divider like that, but after multiple failed attempts, i just threw in a regular bowl.

So my question is, if you did silicone that yourself, how did you prevent leaks?

thanks!

i did not silicone that divider in that tank, i got it built for me. but i have siliconed a divider in a tank myself, with no probs. make sure it is 100% water proof silicone, and make sure you dont leave any holes.

If you look at the discussion below, you'll see the problems associated with a half land half water set up. There's nothing wrong with a water bowl!

To into your question, I found that most people simply do not put enough silicone within the joint. You should use a very large bead of silicone, and don't be afraid to pile it on! It may take several days for it to cure, but that is how I have gotten siliconed dividers to not leak.

I too have done my own dividers. It is really very simple. When you are applying the silicone use aquarium grade and enough to where it almost looks like too much, then run your finger over it to help push it into the joint. And apply it to both sides of the plexi or glass that you are adding. It can take up to 2 days to cure and you'll want to fill it with water and let it sit for several hours to see if you have an leaks. If you do find a leak, just go over it again. My first time of doing this I only had 1 very small leak and it was near the top of the plexi so I didn't have to worry about it really because I simply just didn't have to fill the water that high.

I have just put a glass divider in my new tank and it is fine. If you use a fair bit of Aquarium silicone and let it cure for at LEAST 72 hours, you should be fine. Silicone is somewhat water soluable and so it needs to cure properly.

Put the first beading on and smear that along the joins. Wait till that skins and then put another bead on over the top of the first join to make sure.
