Pet Store Visit....

run26neys Apr 21, 2007 08:11 PM

Today I went to a large national pet store franchise, as I will be getting one more snake than I can hold on Tuesday and need a couple of small items. I decided to get two female spotted pythons, as shipping is as much as the snake cost (and shipping for two snakes was no more than one). I also have a BRB coming on Tuesday. I am now ready for all three snakes, with everything set up and ready.

They had a tiny baby BRB there. They were asking double what it should cost, and it was way below average looking. It was also in a small container lined with a paper towel. The issue is that the paper towel was not just damp the snake was in 1/4 inch of water (the entire container was that way).

They also had a Spotted Python that was not as over-priced. It was starting to shed and just small pieces were shedding. As I was walking away they pulled it out to show a customer, and 4 to 5 people ended up handling it.

I felt sorry for these snakes and the rest of their animals. I am committed to taking care of the animals I have for their entire lives, and I a careful before I get anything that I will be able to take proper care of it.

Congrats on the new additions! I expect to see pictures when they arrive, especially of the new BRB!

I'm sorry to hear that they were keeping them in such bad conditions. Some pet stores I think either don't know or just don't care about proper care for these animals. Hopefully they will go to good homes.

Yeah, its been my experience that most pet shops aren't worth stepping into. My brother and myself were scoping out one local place and he started asking the manager about some of the animals. He couldn't answere a single question and eventually he said " look guys, I dont really care bout the animals, I just handle the money". Not saying all pet shops are bad, but there are enough out there that are.
