I acquired this male, solid chocolate cal king last summer...so this is the first time I am breeding him.

The male is a Blizzard and the female is a double het (albino & hypermelanistic).

I look forward to seeing how the genetics of the hypermelanism works out. Assuming it is the same gene, someone will eventually have to cross it with a nitida to see if that is equivalent also. Good stuff.

As we can see from the pic, there is a distinct difference between the Davis and the Mendota.

but I think it is actually a pattern morph rather than production of melanin. I think the creation of the cream pattern is somehow broken in these snakes, resulting in reduction of the cream.

The reason I suspect this is that with blizards, you can see the hypermelanistic pattern - only it is amel rather than brown/black. The same effect of the broken cream pattern over the (now white) base colour is there.

I think Davis and Mendota are same gene.
I think the "grease kings" of LA and the hyper conjuncta/nitida are different cause of similar effect. They may be compat. genes though.
