If just purchasing a pet, which is better male or female? Why?

I think the only real difference is size, females get bigger then males.

Will a female still produce eggs if not paired with a male?

Almost never. There's been a couple cases, I think, but they're pretty isolated and very rare.

And the male/female size thing...is a sometimes thing. Some males are bigger than some females, some females are bigger than some males, and some are the same size...True, the "giants" you see sometimes are almost always female, but on average there's no obvious size difference between male and female.

Nor is there much of a difference as far as care, personality, or anything else. Regardless of gender there's a chance they'll go off feed when temps cool in winter, anyway.

One of my males is outgoing (for a snake), and one is kind of an asshole, and one of my females likes to hang out in my lap, and the other likes to cruise around and then hide in the laundry. They all have their own personality, regardless of gender.

Just pick a snake you like, and don't worry about silly things like gender. I'd say don't worry about how pretty it is, but once you get one you'll magically become convinced that you've got quite possibly the prettiest snake EVAH. (We've all got that problem here whether or not we admit it )

Jenny There is a difference , females do get bigger and do so faster than the males , I have never seen a male get bigger than a female from the same clutch , yes you may have a 5 yr.old male that is bigger than a 5 yr. old female that are from different clutches and or were one is of a different morph or something like that but were they get the destination that females are bigger is from comparisons within the same clutch . Thanks David of DS Reptile Rescue

Yeah, that's same clutch - falls into the "some females are bigger than some males" category. I was talking generalities.

On *average* there isn't that much of a difference. It's all relative

I would be careful buying one from a pet store because you may end up with one that wont eat or has parasites. You can find male normals on here very cheap. The females usually cost more on KS.
