How often should a boa defecate?

she_geek Apr 22, 2007 01:10 PM

Hi all - after all your great advice a few weeks ago, I decided to get myself a boa. A few weeks ago I brought home Lilith, a yearling albino (50% het for snow). She seems to be doing rather well, if generally shy and inactive.

Since I brought her home, she's had a small rat on the 10th and 18th and ate like a champ. However, she has not passed anything in the 3 weeks I've had her. Is this cause for concern? Should I still be feeding her weekly? Some sources I've consulted say this is par for the course, others say she should have passed something by now and I should be giving her lukewarm baths to speed the process. She's got a good size water bowl but I've never seen her soak in it. She hasn't regurgitated, and other than looking a bit chubby near the vent she looks totally normal.

Your thoughts are appreciated - I realize that I'm probably just being an over-concerned new snake owner, but would like to hear what you think.

It sounds like your snake is loading up for a really good dump. My big boas usually do it every 3 weeks or so. The smaller (4ft and under) usually every 2 weeks.

Hope that helps out.

Yeah, I figured she was saving up a good one. Thanks for the info! Sounds like 3 weeks probably isn't a red flag.
