Bad Smell from a ball python

ohiocornlover Apr 23, 2007 08:31 AM

I just bought a ball python snake that had 6 eggs that she laid on April 13th, the cage is in bad shape (smells terrible & does not look like it's been wiped out/cleaned in quite a while) & the people that we bought her off of did not remove the eggs from the snake & put them into an incubator, my question is, the smell of the cage is almost over whelming, but i don't want to disturb the mom while she's on the eggs; is there anything i can do to get rid of the smell? I'm also wondering if there's any way to check the eggs to see if they are growing or if they are maybe what's causing the smell? This is our first experience with eggs, so I kind of went into this blind, I had always heard that you should remove the eggs after they are laid, but obviously, we didn't have a choice in the matter. I want to make sure they live!

if u want to check the eggs to make sure there growing put a light or flashlight underneath them and the embryo will be seen also if the eggs are discolored such a yellow etc chances are they are underdeveloped or dead and u should get an incubator and regulate the temp at 90 degrees w/ a rheostat or thermostat and use vermiculate and peat moss mixture in a rubbermaid container if u want them to live, they still will live if the mother incubates them but at a lower birth rate.
