Herp Show Pix... From this weekend

MikeRusso Apr 23, 2007 08:50 AM

Everyone herper loves to see show pix.. or at least i do! So i though i would post these pic's I took yesterday at the White Plains, NY Herp Show.

The pix are of the lower level of the show taken from up on the stage.. There is an additional 25 or so tables up on the stage which cannot be seen in these pic's.

I was thinking the same thing Shannon. Thats a pretty big show. However, I wonder if the people there are more to look than buy. Many of the shows now attract only local people who are bringing their kids for show and tell. Then the other half wants to buy their first iguana or ball python. Promoters draw people with flyers in stores and restaruants in the area to make money from the entrabce fee. A good show has lots people traveling from all over to buy snakes.

I think all shows have their fair share of window shoppers but, the White Plains show is really good from both sides.. People that attend spend money and because there is so many vendors there is a always a good mix of animals and suppplies to choose from..

I really didnt have all that much to sell. But, i did sell 23 of the 27 animals i had on the table as well as some odd and ends (books/magazines/etc.).

This show takes place every 4 months and if your ever planning a trip to the NY city area it would be worth booking on a weekend that this show takes place!

And, if you do come bring all your extra Alterna and sell them to me.. Gray bands are the only thing the show is always short on..

Oops... This show takes place every 3 months (4 times a year)

I've been to this show on both sides of the table, and its pretty good. It has a big draw. NJ has so many rules and regs that to the best of my knowledge has no shows, and NYC is pretty close to the same situation. So all those herpers go to White Plains.

This time of year is tough though. Most people have little left. I felt like a lot of vendors were only there to keep their table locations.

Mike I saw you up top across from Reptile Basics.

Yea, my table was up on the stage.. You should have come over and said hello..

I didn't really have too much stuff, but what i did have was mostly nice holdover stuff that i wanted to move out to make some room for this years hatchlings..

Not sure if i will be at the next W.Plains show though.. My wife is due with our third child on 7/5 & the show is on 7/8. I don't know whats worse.. Having a baby in the middle of fishing season or missing the W/P show??? But, either way it was poor planning on my part! (Joke of course)

i think think bruce does a great job runnibg that show. every time i go and the times i was a vendor it seems to be busy and full of buyers.

by the way, any chance you grew up in upstate NY (Chittenango)? I grew up near a Mike R., we did catch a few snakes over the years.
