Pillbugs / Sowbugs

Anyone use them as a food source?

I have a male Panther that go's nuts, when he sees them. I now feed him 6-10 once a week, and have set-up a 10 gal. tank to start raising them. I never serious thought of them as a food source, but they were listed on the ChameleonJournals feeder section.

I've had jax who would kill for a nice pill bug! They are easy to keep and many chams love them once they figure them out.

I use them as “janitors” in all my pygmy tanks. The orange/Spanish variety reproduce quite well and I believe they are high in calcium.

My panthers all love them.

I limit to a couple a week though as I suspect the chinton is slow to digest. They are easy to raise - just need a fish tank kept in dim light (or even the dark) and quite humidmoist (these are isopods with gills, so they need it damp) with some leaf litter, bits of bark and twigs, fruits and veggies.
