shivering python post delivery

pyboa Apr 23, 2007 03:50 PM

Both of my female burms have shivered since laying eggs. It is not constant but occassional shiver or twitch. I have closely monitored temp, humidity and all other aspects of their surroundings with no changes. Any information would be most appreciated.

Burmese are one of a few pythons that use this method to regulate the temp around their eggs. Don't know what you have the temp at where the eggs are but apparently the females aren't satisfied with it .

have the eggs been pulled and are being incubated artificially?

The eggs were put in an incubator immediately. In fact one set hatched this week and the others are due to do so next week.

Sorry for assuming they were still on the eggs. My bad.

No problem I should have made it clear. Thanks for responding.

If the female can still smell the eggs even after removed they may continue to maternally incubate even with no eggs present, I recommend you remove the females and give the enclosure a real good cleaning to remove the possible residual smell of the removed eggs, If they have resumed feeding I wouldnt be too concerned, but it is a waste of the mothers bioloical resources to brood eggs that are not there.
