PVC Material ID?

jacksdiversion Apr 23, 2007 06:52 PM

Can anyone help me out? I am looking to identify the common trade name for the PVC material that Habitat Systems and NERD are using to construct their cages.

Does anyone know what this material is called and where it can be purchased?

Thanks in advance.

Well there is not really a "trade" name is the stuff is manufactured and sold by one agricultural company only. I received one of their catalogs once and for the life of me can't remember the name.

Are you sure NERD is using the same material? I was led to believe they use expanded PVC like a lot of other companies.

Chris, thanks for your response. If you recall the name of the ag company who manufactures and sells this product, please let me know.

I believe you may be correct that NERD uses a more conventional expanded PVC for their larger enclosures. I thought I saw some smaller pieces that appeard to use the same materials as Habitat Systems when I visited their facility. Perhaps I was mistaken or maybe even they were purchased from Habitat Systems.

The material is called hollow-core PVC panel. Google it, because I can't remember either what company it was that sells it. It is for farm usage - open pens for small farm animals.

Great material. You can put heat rope right in it to heat it. It holds screws too.

I would like to express sincere thanks to everyone who responded to my inquiry, both on the board and with personal messages. Your guidance was very valuable in leading me to the information I was seeking.

Now that I know what this material is and where to get it I will be experimenting with some design and construction techniques.

I'll keep you posted on my progress.

Thanks,
Jack Daniel

After receiving a number of inquiries for the specific details of this inquiry, I have decided to post the following details:

The materials I was looking to identify can be viewed at http://www.qcsupply.com/Products/1095.aspx

A well known cage builder/vendor uses all three sizes - the 7/8" thick, the 1.5" thick and the 2" thick.

This material can also be found at http://www.agbuyco.com/pages/65.html
Scroll down to products creep fence, nursery fence and finishing fence. But on this site be sure to distinguish between the solid planks and the individual sections that clip together.

You want products CP78201P, NP153020, NP153024, FP23820 & FP23824.

The website for the manufacturer of this material is http://www.automatedproduction.com/english/swine/confinement/confine.htm

Hope this helps out all interested parties.

Jack Daniel
