I see posts on this board and in the classifieds regarding sizes of dragons, how are these usually measured? Is it snout to vent or are people measuring the tail? It has been a while since I was into herps but I always thought that the size was snout to vent. I just bought 2 from a guy at a local reptile show and he told me they were 6 inches... and they are, with the tail, I took them but it got me wondering... thanx.

I measure mine Snout to tail.. I don't see many ads that say snout to vent, but some do.

I find it is easier just to ask if the measurement is 6" STL or STV

Sorry, I couldn't be more helpful.

How does STL = Snout To Tail (or Snout Through Tail), while STV = Snout To Vent?

Shouldn't it be STT?

sorry...I do tend to over analyze...bad habit of mine...

So how old would you guess that a healthy dragon would be at 6 inches snout to the tip of the tail?

LauraV Aug 14, 2003 09:02 AM

about 4-6 weeks depending on the dragon.

Or course, since today was the kid's first day of school, I had to get up early too. I cannot handle staying up until 3am and getting up at 5:30am. Not good.

But, actually it was a serious question. I've seen STL before and couldn't figure out what it meant. I'm glad I know now...just think STT would be better.

Oh dear...at least tail doesn't start with a "d", hate to have to explain that one.

ok...ok..bad joke...what can you expect...I'm half asleep.

But, i know as soon as fall back asleep the package I'm expecting wil arrive, right???

It stands for Snout Tail Length LOL
-----

LauraV Aug 14, 2003 11:21 AM

Then it should be STTL (Snout Through Tail length)

I mean afterall, if you just measure the snout and tail, you are leaving off a major part of the animal.

But, I still like my like my STT better.

If they used snout to vent, it's because part of the tail is missing, so you could get an accurate Body size idea. If you used tail length and half of it was missing, you might be picturing a 4 week old, vs.. a 4 month old (just an example)?

That would be my guess.
