Map Turtle Aquarium Substrate???

cobrafan Apr 24, 2007 01:04 PM

I am using gravel right now but he is chewing on it some and I am afraid he may be swallowing it too. Is this fatal? What substrate do you guys have the most success with? Advice would be appreciated thanks,
Drew.

Yes eating the gravel can be fatal if it doesn't pass through the turtle's digestive tract. If it's small enough to swallow then it needs to be thrown out.
You can use large river stones instead of gravel, large enough that he can't swallow them. Just about any lawn & garden center would carry them.
You can use no substrate at all, that doesn't look as pretty but it's easier to keep clean.
